"What You Need To Know About Energy" is a special booklet produced by the National Academy of Sciences with contributions from The Communications Institute and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. The information in the booklet was derived from data provided by the Energy Information Administration and National Research Council reports.
As the nationwide debate over the sources and forms of energy continues, it is evident that managing energy use wisely in the 21st century calls for balancing three essential, but quite different, concerns: resources, responsibility, and security.
"What You Need To Know About Energy" begins with a description of the status of energy today, and a survey of the nation's energy demand versus the world's available supply. It then looks ahead to the quest for greater energy efficiency and emerging technologies. The goal of the booklet is to
present an accurate picture of America's current energy needs and to describe options that are likely to play a significant role in our energy future.
The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) is an honorific society of distinguished scholars engaged in scientific and engineering research, dedicated to the furtherance of science and technology and to their use for the general welfare.

 With the agenda including insights from three national experts, a forum on growth at the University of Arizona Tucson campus brought together planners, environmentalists, economists, and state officials to begin determining strategies to lead Tucson and its projected population growth of 500,000 or more into the middle of the century (according to the EBRC Economic Outlook, 2008-2009.)
The forum drew a crowd of 600 on the heels of an Arizona growth survey conducted by the Arizona Daily Star.

Immigration in Society
Immigration will be the subject of 2008 Institute Programs with a focus on economics. The programs and research provide through the Institute's AnalysisOnline will be targeted to reach policy makers, media, and opinion leaders.

ECONOMICS PROGRAMS 2008
Energy, growth and immigration will be the focus of the 2008 Communications Institute Economics programs. A spring journalism seminar on growth will be held in Tucson followed by another growth symposium later in the year. TCI's work on immigration continues in 200. The year will also feature two new studies on energy completed with partnering academic institutions and will feature several energy symposium.
